Amazon does not plan to continue work on the series “The Dark Tower”, which for the streaming service was developed by screenwriter Glen Mazzara. The creators filmed the pilot episode of the planned 13-episode adaptation of the cycle of novels by Stephen King, but in the end it was decided to abandon the project.
The central character of the Dark Tower series is Roland Discayne, the Gunslinger, a frontier knight who uses revolvers instead of swords and swords. He wants to save his decaying world by reaching a tower located in a concentration of time and space.
To help himself, Roland summons from our world a drug addict named Eddie, a legless Susanna Dean, and a boy named Jake. Together they form a ka-tet – a group destined to be together. Their yellow brick road is one of six invisible beams linking Roland’s world together. It leads directly to the tower.
Opposing them is the Man in Black, a devil of many names. A timeless trickster and sorcerer, he also wishes to enter the tower and rule over kingdoms seemingly endless. The Man in Black is an uneasy character who prefers to remain in the shadows, but his menacing presence is clearly felt throughout.
Sam Strike played Shooter in the pilot, and the role of the Man in Black was played by Jasper Pääkkonen. The project was meant to be a prequel to The Dark Tower and tell how Roland took up arms and first encountered the Man in Black.
The writers are now looking to continue working on the series and are in talks with TV channels and streaming services.
